Day 1: The ‘Red City’, the ‘Ochre City’ & the ‘Daughter of the Desert’
Our tour starts in Marrakesh, a city with more nicknames than most. Marrakesh is the fourth largest city in the country and yet, its most popular. It is from Marrakesh several daytrips are made. Today’s activities will depend on your arrival time. There is much to explore in and around the old town and it is easy to get lost. Thankfully, however, we have a private tour guide to show us Marrakesh’s impressive attractions: palaces, city views, a citadel, garden oases, tanneries, mosques and much more.
Day 2: Hiking to the Top of Giant Waterfalls & Approaching Them by Boat
We make a daytrip today to Ouzoud Falls. There we have a guided hiking tour as well as take a paddle boat ride. Ouzoud Falls is the collective name for several tall waterfalls which empty into the El-Abid River gorge. Ouzoud Falls, standing 600 meters tall, is unsurprisingly the most visited site in the region.
Day 3: Tree-Climbing Goats, an Organic Oil Factory & a Charming Coastal Town
We make another daytrip today, this time heading to Essaouira. En route, we pass by tree-climbing goats (really, no joke!) and stop at a small factory where organic argan oil is produced. This oil is good for skin and hair. Once in Essaouira, we are provided with a guided tour. The partially fortified old town (a.k.a. medina) has a layout designed by European colonists in the late 18th century. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the medina is dotted with bastions, ramparts, art galleries and lively outdoor markets.
On a side note, swimming is encouraged only in the summer months, as the water is too cold during the winter and even fall seasons.
Day 4: Over a Dozen Outdoor Markets, Street Entertainers & Architectural Landmarks
Today is all about exploring Marrakesh. Home to around 18 markets (a.k.a. souks), some describe this city as ‘one giant marketplace’. Historically, Marrakesh has served as a marketplace where tribesmen and Berber villagers would buy and sell goods (such as carpets) and find entertainment on the streets. Hundreds of years later, the goods and especially the entertainment are as alive as ever. The heart of the city is Jemaa el-Fnaa Square. Expect to see acrobats, drummers, pipe musicians, dancers, storytellers, comedians and fairground acts. No less compelling than these entertainers are the city’s architectural attractions. We spend the day visiting them.
Day 5: The Country’s Iconic Village & One of the Largest Movie Studios in the World
Although we relocate from Marrakesh ultimately to a village in the desert, we make two must-visit stops along the way. The first stop is to the historic and fortified village of Ait Benhaddou and second, to the town of Ouarzazate. Ait Benhaddou serves as a fine example of Morocco’s earthen clay architecture. Several films shot in Morocco have used both Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate as locations. Movies filmed there include The Mummy, Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Ouarzazate is a town best known for its film studio called Atlas Studios. Atlas is one of the largest movie studios in the world in terms of land area. We visit a cinema museum which displays many of the studio's props.
Day 6: Camel Riding on Red Sand Dunes, Dinner & a Show Under the Stars & Sleeping in a Luxury Camp
We are relocating once again. Our desert exploration continues north today. The first destination is Dades Gorges. They are a series of rugged wadi gorges carved out by the river. The next destination is Todgha (a.k.a. Todra) Gorges. They are a series of limestone river canyons. En route to our final destination, Erg Chebbi, we make a stop in the village of Rissani, home to a locally famous pizza-like dish called madfouna. Erg Chebbi is where our luxury camp is located. We sleep in a tent. Erg Chebbi is essentially a large sea of red dunes formed by wind-blown sand. After arrival, we go camel riding with a tour guide. Dinner is included on today’s tour. Before the night ends, we watch a traditional show with music and fire.
Important to note, although the camp usually has Wi-Fi and should have electricity, outages do happen from time to time.
Day 7: Monkeys & the Middle Ages Meet the 21st Century
After breakfast, which is included on today’s tour, we relocate from the desert to the city of Fez (also spelled Fes). Several scenic stops are made along the way, such as to Ziz Valley and the Cèdre Gouraud Forest, the latter of which is home to monkeys. Fez will for sure stimulate our senses. It is the firstborn of Morocco’s four royal capitals and arguably the best-preserved medieval city of the Arab world.
Day 8: Meal Inside a Native’s Home & the Best-Preserved Medieval City of the Arab World
Fez is truly a crossbreed between the Middle Ages and the modern times. Today we dive right into the sightseeing: fortresses, mosques, a tannery, centuries-old brass-working shops, a historic university, city views, souks and more. Fez is Morocco’s second most popular tourist destination after Marrakesh, but it hosts no fewer must-see landmarks. Following the tour, we are taken to a native Moroccan’s home. There we watch how traditional food is prepared as well as have dinner. The combination of tasty cuisine, rich culture and good company creates an unforgettable experience.
Day 9: The Blue Pearl Village of Africa
Today we relocate to a charming blue village called Chefchaouen. It is nicknamed the 'blue pearl of Morocco'. The beauty of Chefchaouen's mountainous surroundings is enhanced by the contrast of the brightly painted old town. It is an attractive place for tourists generally and influencers especially. There are so many postcard-perfection locations to take a selfie. Among the places we visit is, of course, the main square. It is lined with cafes and is filled to the brim with locals and tourists mingling.
Day 10: Casablanca or Tangier, Your Choice!
Where we relocate today depends on whether you will be leaving the country from Casablanca or from Tangier. If the former, then we will visit the giant Hassan II Mosque. Completed in 1993, it is the second largest functioning mosque in Africa and is the 7th largest in the world. Its minaret is the world's second tallest at 210 metres (689 feet). If you are departing Morocco tomorrow from Tangier, then we do a city tour: a citadel, ramparts, street shops, public squares, markets, gardens, mosques and more.
Day 11: Our Tour Ends Today
Transportation will be arranged for you to reach Tangier's airport or harbor (or Casablanca's airport), whichever you prefer. Note there is an additional charge to be dropped off in Casablanca.
The whole reason I did not travel much was because of the stress it usually caused. I can never actually enjoy my trip. However, my brother took a tour with CharlieTheTraveler and recommended them. I was pleased to find out that I did not experience any of the normal stress of traveling—instead, the company had planned and organized almost everything for my trip to Morocco. I wasn’t familiar with the country, but that made no difference as the tour guide provided was an expert. I felt safe while going on each daytrip. The mosques we visited were my favorite, as that was unlike anything I have where I live.
I was amazed by not only the cultural sites we visited in Morocco but also the natural sites. Ouzoud Falls was remarkable and picturesque. Out of all the places we visited, I am glad CharlieTheTraveler included these natural sites. They were unique and showed the true beauty of Morocco, both landscapes and wildlife alike. It was a beautiful experience I will never forget!
Morocco was a great touring destination and CharlieTheTraveler planned daytrips that highlighted this. I enjoyed all the daytrips, but the one that stands out to me after returning from the trip was Essaouira. There was so much to do and it would have been overwhelming for me had it not been for our company-provided tour guide. I enjoyed walking around with him and hearing more about the town and getting recommendations for where to go in the town. I also enjoyed the swimming, which was a great way to end this daytrip before we headed back to the hotel!
I could not have planned a better trip to Morocco than CharlieTheTraveler provided. They had an organized itinerary which provided structure to the trip. Although there was the structure which I liked, I also appreciated the balance of autonomous time to explore and enjoy the nightlife of the area. There was never a shortage of activities but I also never felt like there was too much to do with too little time. It was the perfect amount of both time and activities!
What stood out about the Morocco trip to me is the tour guide. He really made it a point to make my trip enjoyable. It was also evident CharlieTheTraveler only provides the most experienced tour guides for their trips, as our tour guide was well-versed in the area and had a good understanding of the local restaurants, the culture of the native people, and the atmosphere. It was the best way to travel and I cannot wait to book my next destination with this company.
All of Morocco is beautiful and interesting, but I could not have organized all of the daytrips CharlieTheTraveler did. It would have been too much for me to do and too stressful, so I am very glad this company took care of almost everything. They made sure to prepare me for the climate, what to pack for, and what to expect on the trip. I loved walking through Marrakesh, as there was so much to explore and it was an authentic cultural experience.
I am easily distracted and very rarely can do more than one thing per trip I take. I chose to go with a guided tour with CharlieTheTraveler to Morocco. It was structured and ensured I got the most out of my trip abroad. I enjoyed all of the experiences the daytrips allowed, which included walking tours and authentic meals recommended by the tour guide. I don’t think I will ever be able to take a trip without this company again!
I was once advised to visit Morocco by a friend, but I could not find time to plan a whole trip with all the research it would have taken, as I knew nothing about the area. I read some reviews about the trip through CharlieTheTraveler and it seemed like a perfect solution! I was thoroughly impressed with how much they planned and how knowledgeable they were about Morocco, which saved me tons of time! After I returned the trip, I felt like an expert myself!
I found CharlieTheTraveler had a good balance of activities on the Morocco trip. Activities varied from walking tours to swimming to a hike to a waterfall. I was never bored and had time to myself in the evenings to continue exploring on my own with recommendations by our tour guide. The company prepared me well for the trip and I don’t think I could have navigated around Marrakesh or Fez on my own! These were two beautiful cities with a lot to explore that the company did an excellent job organizing daytrips to.
I enjoyed the trip to Morocco organized by CharlieTheTraveler, as I consider myself a cultural and spiritual person. I was fascinated by the immersion into the Moroccan culture and the tours of the mosques in all the cities. This company planned a perfect trip to such an interesting country. I would never have thought I would get such an authentic experience with a touring company, but CharlieTheTraveler delivered!
I’ve tried to plan a cultural trip before, but it took way too much of my time to even start to plan an authentic experience. I am thankful to have found CharlieTheTraveler, as they took the pain out of traveling. I was able to experience Morocco in a unique way with authentic experiences every day of the 11-day trip. There were so many amazing sites we saw and our tour guide made sure I got the best out of all of it.
My sister wanted to travel with me but neither of us were willing to plan a whole trip. I had read reviews on multiple touring companies but found CharlieTheTraveler had the best reviews with the best-sounding trips. As soon as I booked for her and I, I was immediately impressed by the company. Preparing for the trip was made easy by the detailed itinerary provided. There was also excellent communication made, so by the time we got to Morocco, I knew I was in good hands with the tour guide. My safety was definitely the company’s main priority, which allowed me to actually enjoy myself.
Morocco seemed to have everything I wanted in a trip – beaches, museums, beautiful buildings, markets. I don’t think I had a moment on this tour that I didn’t like. CharlieTheTraveler organized a great trip to this destination. My favorite part was going to the markets, as this is the best way to be immersed into the culture of the native people.
What I liked most about CharlieTheTraveler was the tours did not seem out of textbook. Our tour guide was not a walking robot of information. Everything about the trip was authentic and real. I was immersed into the culture of Morocco in each daytrip. Although I liked every aspect of the trip, I especially felt drawn to the mosques as I know they hold so much meaning. It is an important part of the culture, so I was happy to have been brought to so many!
I researched touring companies that traveled to Morocco, as that was on my bucket list. CharlieTheTraveler was one of my options and, by the looks of the reviews and the layout of their trip, seemed like the best option for me. I was right, as I experienced culture, nature, and food unlike any trip I have ever been on. Initially I was nervous about still having to do research on restaurants, but the company did so much planning for me, they even recommended the best places to eat in each area we were in on each day. I have never seen such an organized touring company before!
I love to travel, so finding the right touring company was important to me. CharlieTheTraveler had great reviews and interesting trips, so I felt confident booking a trip to Morocco through them. Booking was made easy and preparing for the trip was even easier, as the company laid everything out for me. I enjoyed all of the activities, especially the historical sites we visited. It made me appreciate the culture much more!
I recently returned from my trip to Morocco through this company. I am truly impressed by everything they did to make sure I had the best 11 days in such a wonderful country. They highlighted the best aspects of the destination and ensured I was fully prepared for all of the daytrips that were planned. I am excited to see what other trips they have available and book my next one!
Morocco is a center of culture and history, but this company exposed me to the country’s natural and spiritual life as well. I was impressed by CharlieTheTraveler and how much they included in the trip for a low price. There was little I had to plan myself as they took care most of it for me. I arrived in Morocco with no stress which allowed me to fully experience everything this country offered!
Many touring companies have big groups of 20 or so people, but CharlieTheTraveler is not one of them. I appreciated the small group size, as it allowed us to get to know each other and made me feel safe. After the first day in Morocco, no one was a stranger and we were all comfortable with one another. I had a lot more fun touring the markets and shops with my new friends than I would have alone or with a group of 20 strangers!
My niece had recommended CharlieTheTraveler, as she went on a trip with them. I am not an adventurous person, so I did not want a trip with too many active excursions. The trip to Morocco was perfect for me, as it allowed me to opt out of some of the swimming activities. Altogether, I enjoyed the cultural and historical sites we visited and felt like I had an authentic experience that did not force me out of my comfort zone.
