Our tour starts in the town of Krabi. More specifically, from the airport, we are taken to the coastal village of Ao Nang. Along with serving as a good introduction to Southern Thailand as well as offering some fun nightlife, Ao Nang acts as a base from which to explore the surrounding exotic islands.
As an excursion, we explore the tropical surroundings by boat. Specifically, we visit Tub Island, Chicken Island, Poda Island and Pranang Cave. This region of Thailand is famous for its limestone peaks, both on land and in the sea. The limestone hills contain many caves, most having stalactites and stalagmites. Lunch and snorkeling are included on today’s tour.
An alternative to doing a boat tour of the greater Ao Nang area is to make a daytrip solely to a beach called Railay. There you can go rock climbing. Ask us for details. Note that children under 5 years old are not allowed to go rock climbing.
We relocate by boat from Ao Nang to Koh Phi Phi Island. There we take a private long-tailed boat tour. Specifically, we explore Pileh Bay, Maya Bay, Loh Sama Bay, Monkey Beach and Viking Cave. The area features beaches and clear water that have had their natural beauty protected by national park status. Tourism here exploded since the filming of the movie “The Beach.” Today, the Phi Phi Islands are one of Thailand’s most famous destinations. Snorkeling gear (mask and tube) is included on today’s tour. In the evening, we enjoy the buzzing nightlife on this car-free island.
We relocate by boat from Koh Phi Phi Island to the resort town of Phuket. There we check out the famous Patong Beach, then watch the sunset from Cape Phrom Thep and then head to a Thai restaurant. At this restaurant, we are taught how traditional food is prepared as well as have dinner. The combination of tasty cuisine, rich culture and good company creates an unforgettable experience.
The later evening is all about partying. Some of the most buzzing nightlife on Earth can be found in Phuket, specifically on Bangla Road. There we are provided with a guided tour. Expect music, bars, clubs, promoters, dancers, food carts and even massage chairs all packed into one long pedestrian street.
We make a daytrip via an organized boat tour to Phang Nga Bay. Limestone cliffs with caves, collapsed cave systems and archaeological sites are found in the bay. The most famous of the many islands is the so-called James Bond Island. It was featured in the movie “The Man with the Golden Gun.” Lunch and canoeing through caves and lagoons are included on today’s tour.
When relocating by land from Phuket town to Khao Sok National Park, we make a long stop in a coastal area called Khao Lak. It is from here we make a daytrip via an organized boat tour to the Similan Islands. This is a national park/archipelago consisting of 11 islands. The archipelago is famous for its rock formations. Lunch and snorkeling are included on today’s tour.
Note that the Similan Islands boat tour operates only November through April. Outside of this season, they are replaced with a tour of Phuket Island, specifically Phuket Viewpoint, a temple called Wat Chaithararam and Phuket’s old town.
As an excursion from Khao Sok National Park, we head to Phang Nga Elephant Park. There we bathe an elephant in the river. We also go on a canoe safari along the Sok River, with majestic mountains surrounding us. Lunch is included on today’s tour.
We make a daytrip by land from Khao Sok National Park to Cheow Lan Lake (a.k.a. Rajjaprabha Dam Reservoir). There we are provided with a full-day tour. Cheow Lan is inhabited by a range of mammals such as tigers, elephants, tapirs and many monkey species. It is also arguably Thailand’s prettiest lake. Included on today’s tour are lunch, a boat ride around the lake and a visit to a water cave.
Today we relocate from Khao Sok National Park first by land and then by boat to Koh Samui Island. There we see the viewpoint in Lad Koh, Lamai Beach and its famous rocks, Wat Khunaram Temple, the Mummified Monk, the Secret Waterfall and the Big Buddha. Nightlife-rich Koh Samui Island also serves as a base from which to make boat daytrips.
We make a daytrip via an organized boat tour to Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park, which covers 42 islands. Most of the islands are close to each other, making a breathtaking panorama when sailing around the park. All the islands are of different sizes and shapes. Most of them are covered with tropical forests. Lunch, snorkeling and kayaking inside caves are included on today’s tour.
We make a daytrip first to Ko Tao Island and then to Ko Nang Yuan Island. Popular at Ko Tao is hiking to the top of the mountain for a panoramic view, which is quite stunning. The highlight around Ko Nang Yuan Island is snorkeling. Snorkeling gear, the mountain hike and lunch are included on today’s tour.
Transportation will be arranged for you to reach the airport on Koh Samui Island. Alternatively, we can take you to the pier so you can take the 30-minute boat ride to Koh Phangan Island. This island is best known for its monthly half moon and full moon parties.
If you are seeking an adventurous yet luxury tour in which you see and do it all stress-free, in which all the planning is done for you by experts, in which 5-star hotels, ground transportation, tour guides and entry fees are all included in the package, then you have come to the right place. We are open to customizing this tour to your liking, even though the itinerary we recommend is rock solid. As our tour is currently advertised, you absolutely will not find another one out there as packed with activities and attractions. What’s more, you will not find another tour out there that offers it all "FIRST CLASS," yet for a relatively low price. We have thousands of travelers taking this specific tour every year, and that's because no competitor can beat us on quality, price & substance.
All participants are required to book travel insurance within 72 hours of booking this tour. At a minimum, such insurance must cover cancellations, medical expenses, evacuations, flight loss or delays and 24/7 assistance.
A 4-installment payment plan is available, often with 0 percent interest to those with at least decent credit. Ask us for details. Our luxury-oriented and itinerary-packed “Southern Thailand in 12 Days” tour is available for $2,210 USD per person. This price includes all transportation, except airfare. It also includes English-speaking tour guides, food, all activities mentioned in the standard itinerary and all entry fees. If you would like lodging included for all nights on this tour, then the combined (transportation, tour guides, food, activities, entry fees and lodging) total would be $2,980 USD per person. This price is based on 2 per room and is offered to those booking at least 6 weeks in advance. Note that there is a $30 USD fee if paying by bank transfer or a 4.6 percent surcharge for payments made by credit card. We accept both forms of payment. We do not accept checks. Moving forward, to better understand your specific circumstances and wishes, and for us to accurately quote you, please tell us:
1.Would you like to extend the duration of this tour so you have some free days just to relax? If you have 1 extra day, then we recommend the coastal village of Ao Nang. If you have 2, then we recommend 1 in Ao Nang and 1 in the resort town of Phuket.
2.Specifically for Day 2, an alternative to doing a boat tour of the greater Ao Nang/Krabi area is to make a daytrip solely to a beach called Railay. There you can go rock climbing. Do you prefer rock climbing at Railay over doing a boat tour of the greater Ao Nang/Krabi area? There is no difference in cost.
3.Also, when making daytrips from Phuket, you are picked up in shared vans, with other travelers inside. This, in turn, usually means you will be making hotel stops before ultimately heading to your destination for the day. Would you like to upgrade to private pickups in order to avoid going from one traveler’s hotel to the next traveler’s hotel?
4.Not least, would you like to do our South Thailand tour but simply in reverse? This is allowed and there are no additional fees. You would start on Koh Phangan or Koh Samui Island and end in Ao Nang. Alternatively, would you like to keep our itinerary but simply go to Koh Phangan Island once our tour is over? Koh Phangan Island is only a 30-minute boat ride away from Koh Samui Island. Koh Phangan Island is best known for its monthly half-moon and full moon parties.
5.Lastly, many of our customers combine our Thailand tour with our Laos tour. You can find our Laos tour here: charliethetraveler.com/our-multiday-tours/Laos Would you like to combine Thailand with Laos?
Any airfare, alcohol, travel insurance, any government-imposed visa fees and anything not mentioned in the itinerary
Although airfare is not included in the price, we will find you the exact flights you need. Just ask.
Below is the only domestic flight needed for this tour:
Day 12: Koh Samui Island to Ao Nang, Phuket or Bangkok (depending from where you leave the country)
After booking our tour package, we would send you screenshots of what you need to purchase (airlines, flight number and date) and you would then book directly with the carrier. You should almost never book airfare through a third party. The exception is when booking specifically international business class airfare from the United States. Sometimes this specific scenario provides a significant saving for the customer. Does CharlieTheTraveler book airfare on customers' behalf? Yes, both international and domestic. Ask us for details.
Note that CharlieTheTraveler cannot guarantee the airfare type it quotes you will be fully refundable. This is one of the reasons why we require customers to have travel insurance. Some airlines offer fully refundable airfare with a relatively low upcharge while others offer strictly non-refundable. Equally unsurprising, some airlines offer fully refundable airfare but with significant upcharges. If you are seeking airfare which guarantees cancellation without penalty, then please state this in writing when asking CharlieTheTraveler to book on your behalf.
Below are the names of the hotels where we commonly have our customers stay. Note this is subject to availability.
Nights 1-2: Ao Nang, Preferred Accommodation: Holiday Ao Nang Beach Resort
Night 3: Koh Phi Phi Island, Preferred Accommodation: Phi Phi Harbour View Hotel
*Note that while there are nicer hotels on the island, they are not walking distance from all the action. Phi Phi Harbour View Hotel is.
Nights 4-5: Phuket Town, Preferred Accommodation: The Senses Resort & Pool Villas
Nights 6-8: Khao Sok National Park, Preferred Accommodation: Khao Sok Rainforest Resort
Nights 9-11: Koh Samui Island, Preferred Accommodation: Muangsamui
For those who wish to add Koh Phangan Island, our preferred hotels there are Chantaramas Resort and Summer Resort.
Although virtually all activities on this multi-day tour are shared with other travelers, we can make the trip almost completely private, per your request, at an additional cost. Typically, the only private tours are of Phuket Town, the Phi Phi Islands, Koh Samui Island and the Sok River (canoe safari).
*Note that you are not with the same travelers and tour guides throughout your trip. Instead, you usually meet and engage with new people.
Your room is exclusive to you and whomever is in your party. Strangers (meaning customers who book on the same start date but do not know each other) do not share rooms on this tour. On a side note, please let us know if you and the other person(s) in your booking want separate rooms.
Although we get customers of all ages and from several countries, our statistics show most people who book are 30 to 65 years old and from USA, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
We welcome your kids specifically and only when the tour is exclusive to you and your group-meaning other customers are not joining you. We define kids as anyone under 18 years old. In order to make the tour exclusive to you and your group, your booking would need to be for 4 persons or more for any of our tours except Iceland. For our Iceland tour, your booking would need to be for 8 persons or more. Regarding the cost of bringing a non-adult, we do deduct from the total based on the amount of activities you request we remove from the tour. Note that reducing the total price of the tour by removing activities is something offered for non-adults only. Adults can opt out of activities but the total price does not change.
We do not expect you to be an Olympic champion. We know some of the tour members are more fit than others…and we are well prepared for this. However, we do hope you take into consideration this is a very active tour, just like every other tour we offer.
Please let us know about any disability you have. Some disabilities would not affect you taking this tour. Others would prevent you from joining altogether. Although we want all of our customers to have fun, your safety is our first priority.
Of course. Once each day’s tour is over, you have the rest of the evening to yourself. Because our tours tend to be very active, our customers typically want to simply relax once the sun sets.
Notify us as soon as possible and we will do our very best to arrange a meeting point. Please note that we do not refund for any days or activities that you miss.
Generally speaking, you can opt out as long as we are given adequate notice. Please note that opting out of certain activities does not reduce the price of this tour.
We would do our best to keep you safe and make you as comfortable as possible, as well as make special arrangements to address your situation. Partial refunds are not offered if you cannot continue with the tour. However, most travel insurances reimburse you for such situations. This is one of many reasons why we require our customers to purchase travel insurance before taking this tour.
To confirm your tour, full payment is needed at the time of your purchase. However, refunds are offered. You will receive a full refund if canceling at least 91 days in advance from the departure date. Cancelling between 90-60 days prior to departure entitles you to a 50 percent refund. Cancelling between 59-31 days prior to departure entitles you to a 25 percent refund. Canceling 30 days or less prior to departure is not eligible for a refund. Cancellation requests need to be made by email and become effective on the date received by CharlieTheTraveler.
In the unlikely event CharlieTheTraveler needs to cancel this trip, such as because of very poor weather conditions, we will give you a full refund for the tour within 14 business days of the cancellation.
You should receive an email from us within 24 hours of purchasing this tour as well as a week before departure. The first email gives details about what to bring, how to prepare yourself, etc. The second email gives details mostly about the hotels.
Bring a lockable waterproof backpack (to bring onto the boat), a waterproof case for your identification card and credit cards (when swimming) and water shoes. If you wish to go rock climbing in Ao Nang, then also bring gloves. On a different note, you may need to bring adapters for your electronic devices.
Our tour guides/drivers are licensed, speak English and know how to bring excitement to your day. What we deliver is the complete opposite of the cookie-cutting tours the big corporations offer, leaving you in complete boredom. Although our tour guides/drivers are attentive, accommodating and engaged, they also know when to give you your private space and free time. It's a perfect balance.
All of our tours are offered in English. If you prefer another language, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Absolutely not. We make the arrangements for you.
