Our Tour Package Itinerary
Day 1: The ‘Red City’, the ‘Ochre City’ & the ‘Daughter of the Desert’
Our tour starts in Marrakesh, a city with more nicknames than most. Marrakesh is the fourth largest city in the country and yet, its most popular. It is from Marrakesh several daytrips are made. Today’s activities will depend on your arrival time. There is much to explore in and around the old town and it is easy to get lost. Thankfully, however, we have a private tour guide to show us Marrakesh’s impressive attractions: palaces, city views, a citadel, garden oases, tanneries, mosques and much more.
For your information, below are the names of the attractions we will try to show you today. If you finish early, then attractions set for Day 4 would be added today. Conversely, if you do not have time today to visit one or more of the attractions below, it/they would get rolled over to Day 4.
1. Rahba Kedima: an area where locals sell fruit, vegetables and chickens
2. Souk Semarine Market: features lots of clothing, merchants and trinkets
3. Souk Haddadin Market (located on the northern end of Souk Attarin Market): traditionally the ironworker’s quarter and now home to more miscellaneous shops
4. Souk des Teinturiers Market: featuring dyers’ workshops
5. Souk el-Attarine Market: home to lamp, teapot and mirror shops
6. Kissaria Market: contains high-end designer boutiques for lanterns, glassware, Berber rugs, fashion and antiques
7. Souk Cherifia Market: the best shopping destination for designer clothes, accessories and homeware
8. Criee Berbere: the old slave market and now an outdoor area selling carpets
9. Sidi Ishaq Market: miscellaneous shops
10. Albiyyaddine Market: miscellaneous shops
11. Jemma El-Fnaa Square: Marrakesh’s main square, filled with street vendors and food stalls
Note that if you cannot fly directly to Marrakesh, then you will need to take a connecting flight from Casablanca or we will need to transfer you by land from Casablanca to Marrakesh.
Day 2: Hiking to the Top of Giant Waterfalls & Approaching Them by Boat
We make a daytrip today to Ouzoud Falls. There we have a guided hiking tour as well as take a paddle boat ride. Ouzoud Falls is the collective name for several tall waterfalls which empty into the El-Abid River gorge. Ouzoud Falls, standing 600 meters tall, is unsurprisingly the most visited site in the region.
Day 3: Tree-Climbing Goats, an Organic Oil Factory & a Charming Coastal Town
We make another daytrip today, this time heading to Essaouira. En route, we pass by tree-climbing goats (really, no joke!) and stop at a small factory where organic argan oil is produced. This oil is good for skin and hair. Once in Essaouira, we are provided with a guided tour. The partially fortified old town (a.k.a. medina) has a layout designed by European colonists in the late 18th century. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the medina is dotted with bastions, ramparts, art galleries and lively outdoor markets.
Below are the names of the attractions we will try to show you today.
1. Porte de la Marine (a.k.a. Marine Docks)
2. Sqala de la Ville Bastion (a.k.a. Sqala de la Kasbah)
3. Rue Dar Laalouj: a road dotted with shops
4. Souk Jdid Market
5. Rue Mohammed Zerktouni: the main street featuring a lively market
6. The City Ramparts
7. Essaouira Beach: On the far side of the beach, look out for the ruins of defense walls.
8. Sqala du Port Bastion
On a side note, swimming is encouraged only in the summer months, as the water is too cold during the winter and even fall seasons.
On a final note, CharlieTheTraveler cannot guarantee the tree-climbing goats will be there when you pass by.
Day 4: Over a Dozen Outdoor Markets, Street Entertainers & Architectural Landmarks
Today is all about exploring Marrakesh. Home to around 18 markets (a.k.a. souks), some describe this city as ‘one giant marketplace’. Historically, Marrakesh has served as a marketplace where tribesmen and Berber villagers would buy and sell goods (such as carpets) and find entertainment on the streets. Hundreds of years later, the goods and especially the entertainment are as alive as ever. The heart of the city is Jemaa el-Fnaa Square. Expect to see acrobats, drummers, pipe musicians, dancers, storytellers, comedians and fairground acts. No less compelling than these entertainers are the city’s architectural attractions. We spend the day visiting them.
Day 5: The Country’s Iconic Village & One of the Largest Movie Studios in the World
Although we relocate from Marrakesh ultimately to a village in the desert, we make two must-visit stops along the way. The first stop is to the historic and fortified village of Ait Benhaddou and second, to the town of Ouarzazate. Ait Benhaddou serves as a fine example of Morocco’s earthen clay architecture. Several films shot in Morocco have used both Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate as locations. Movies filmed there include The Mummy, Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Ouarzazate is a town best known for its film studio called Atlas Studios. Atlas is one of the largest movie studios in the world in terms of land area. We visit a cinema museum which displays many of the studio’s props.
Day 6: Daydreaming in the Sahara Desert, Dinner & a Show Under the Stars & Sleeping in a Luxury Camp
We are relocating once again. Our desert exploration continues north today. The first destination is Dades Gorges. They are a series of rugged wadi gorges carved out by the river. The next destination is Todgha (a.k.a. Todra) Gorges. They are a series of limestone river canyons. En route to our final destination, Erg Chebbi, we make a stop in the village of Rissani, home to a locally famous pizza-like dish called madfouna. Erg Chebbi is where our luxury camp is located. We sleep in a tent. Erg Chebbi is essentially a large sea of red dunes formed by wind-blown sand. After arrival, we go camel riding with a tour guide. Dinner is included on today’s tour. Before the night ends, we watch a traditional show with music and fire.
Important to note, although the camp usually has Wi-Fi and should have electricity, outages do happen from time to time.
Day 7: Monkeys & the Middle Ages Meet the 21st Century
After breakfast, which is included on today’s tour, we go quad riding and reach the nearby village of Merzouga. We then relocate to the city of Fez (also spelled Fes). Several scenic stops are made along the way, such as to Ziz Valley and the Cèdre Gouraud Forest, the latter of which is home to monkeys. Fez will for sure stimulate our senses. It is the firstborn of Morocco’s four royal capitals and arguably the best-preserved medieval city of the Arab world.
For your information, below are the names of the attractions we will try to show you today. If you finish early, then attractions set for tomorrow would be added today.
1. Rue Bou Ksissat: Home to several jewelry shops, this street used to be the economic and spiritual heart of Fez’ Jewish Quarter (a.k.a. Mellah).
2. Bab Ftouh Gate (a.k.a. Gate of Victory)
3. Rcif Market: This is a food market.
4. Dyer’s Street: This alleyway features dyed wools and silk.
5. Place Seffarine: a square featuring a nice fountain and containing tons of centuries-old brass-working shops
Day 8: Meal Inside a Native’s Home & the Best-Preserved Medieval City of the Arab World
Fez is truly a crossbreed between the Middle Ages and the modern times. Today we dive right into the sightseeing: fortresses, mosques, a tannery, centuries-old brass-working shops, a historic university, city views, souks and more. Fez is Morocco’s second most popular tourist destination after Marrakesh, but it hosts no fewer must-see landmarks. Following the tour, we are taken to a native Moroccan’s home. There we watch how traditional food is prepared as well as have dinner. The combination of tasty cuisine, rich culture and good company creates an unforgettable experience.
For your information, below are the names of the attractions we will try to show you today. If you are unable to visit any of these attractions due to closing times, then you would be taken to them tomorrow morning, before departing to the town of Chefchaouen.
1. Palais Royal Dar El Makhzen (a.k.a. Royal Palace of Dar El Makhzen): outside only, as the inside is closed to the general public
2. Marinid Tombs: featuring ruins and offering city views
3. Musee des Armes (a.k.a. Armory Museum): housed inside a 16th century fortress
4. Mechouar de Bab Dekaken Gate
5. Rue Talaa Kebira: historic street brimming with shops
6. Bou Inania Madrasa
7. Funduq al-Najjariyyin (a.k.a. Museo Nejjarine): houses a wooden arts museum and features a nice entrance and courtyard
8. Chouara Tannery
9. Al-Attarine Madrasa: From its terrace, this historic Islamic school offers a nice view of the Qarawiyyin Mosque courtyard.

12. Riad Nejjarine: A tourist attraction in its own right, this historic building now serves as a restaurant. The interior is quite decorative.

15. Qaraouiyine Mosque: This is the location of the oldest university in the world. It is now a mosque. When the doors open, from the street you can see much of the pretty courtyard. You are to visit the outside only, that is, unless you are Muslim.
16. Palais Quaraouiyine: This once-palace is now a high-end carpet shop. From its terrace, you can get a good view of the old town. Your tour guide is to ask a worker there to give you access to the terrace. Note the worker there may ask for a tip.
17. Zaouia Moulay Idriss II: Built in the 18th century, this shrine contains the tomb of the founder of Fez. At least one of the doors is often open, thus allowing tourists to peek into the prayer hall. The rest of the inside is inaccessible to non-Muslims.
18. Borj Sud: This is a city viewpoint.
19. Bab Bou Jeloud Gate (a.k.a. Bab Abi al-Jounoud or Blue Gate)
Day 9: The Blue Pearl Village of Africa
Today we relocate to a charming blue village called Chefchaouen. It is nicknamed the ‘blue pearl of Morocco’. The beauty of Chefchaouen’s mountainous surroundings is enhanced by the contrast of the brightly painted old town. It is an attractive place for tourists generally and influencers especially. There are so many postcard-perfection locations to take a selfie. Among the places we visit is, of course, the main square. It is lined with cafes and is filled to the brim with locals and tourists mingling.
Day 10: Casablanca or Tangier, Your Choice!
Where we relocate today depends on whether you will be leaving the country from Casablanca or from Tangier. If the former, then we will visit the giant Hassan II Mosque. Completed in 1993, it is the second largest functioning mosque in Africa and is the 7th largest in the world. Its minaret is the world’s second tallest at 210 metres (689 feet). If you are departing Morocco tomorrow from Tangier, then we do a city tour: a citadel, ramparts, street shops, public squares, markets, gardens, mosques and more.
For your information, below are the names of the attractions we will try to show you today if you are heading to Tangier rather than to Casablanca.
1. The Kasbah Citadel: impressive on both the outside and the inside
2. Ramparts (a.k.a. Bab Al Bahr): offers a great view from the terrace and otherwise leads to a closed but nevertheless attractive fort called Borj en Naam
3. Rue Es-Siaghine: This street is lined with cafes and shops. Highlights include (A) the southern gate (a.k.a. Bab Al Fahs), (B) a government building featuring a courtyard planted with orange trees (number 47), (C) the former Spanish Church of the Immaculate Conception (a.k.a. La Purisima, now used for social activities) (number 51) and (D) the jeweler shops on Rue Touahine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can We Customize This Tour?
We are open to customizing this tour to your liking, even though the itinerary we recommend is rock solid. As our tour is currently advertised, you absolutely will not find another one out there as packed with activities and attractions. What’s more, you will not find another tour out there that offers it all "FIRST CLASS," yet for a relatively low price. We have thousands of travelers taking this specific tour every year, and that's because no competitor can beat us on quality, price & substance.
Is Travel Insurance Required & Included?
All participants are required to book travel insurance within 72 hours of booking this tour. At a minimum, such insurance must cover cancellations, medical expenses, evacuations, flight loss or delays and 24/7 assistance.
How Much Does This Tour Cost & Is Financing Offered?
A 4-installment payment plan is available, often with 0 percent interest to those with at least decent credit. Ask us for details. Our luxury-oriented and itinerary-packed “Morocco in 11 Days” tour is available for $2,242 USD per person. This price includes all transportation, except flights. It also includes English-speaking tour guides, food, all activities and all entry fees. Also included is 1 night of lodging in the desert. If you would like lodging included for the remaining 10 nights on this tour, then the combined (transportation, tour guides, food, activities, entry fees and lodging) total would be $3,261 USD per person. This price is based on 2 per room and is offered to those booking at least 6 weeks in advance. Note that there is a $30 USD fee if paying by bank transfer or a 4.6 percent surcharge for payments made by credit card. We accept both forms of payment. We do not accept checks. Moving forward, to better understand your specific circumstances and wishes, and for us to accurately quote you, please tell us:
1. How many persons in your party-including yourself-would be joining this tour? Solo travelers are welcomed, in case you were wondering.
2. What is your age and the age of your travel companion(s), if applicable? Travel insurance is required for this tour and we cannot quote you without knowing your age.
3. Do you prefer this tour to be private/exclusive to you or would you like to share it with other travelers?
4. Would you be sharing the room with others in your group (e.g. a spouse, relative or friend) or do you want the room exclusive to you?
5. Where would you be flying from (and back to)?
6. On what date would you like to leave home?
7. Would you like to extend the duration of this tour so you have some free days just to relax? If you have 1 extra day, then we recommend Chefchaouen. If you have 2, then we recommend 1 in Chefchaouen and 1 in Casablanca.
8. Do you have a preference between male and female tour guides?
9. If you are traveling solo or with just 1 more person, you will be sharing transportation with other travelers. If you are traveling with 2 other persons or more, then all ground transportation will be exclusive to you and your party. If you are specifically a party of 2, are you interested in upgrading from shared transportation to all private for all days on this tour?

Is This a Private or Group Tour?
Typically, all city sightseeing tours and the traditional dinner class are exclusive to you and whomever else you may book on behalf of. Specifically for solo travelers and parties of 2, all the other activities are shared with other travelers, namely the daytrip to Ouzoud Falls and the 2-day desert safari starting in Marrakesh and ending in Fez. If you are specifically a party of 2, are you interested in upgrading from shared to all private for all days on this tour?
*Note that you are not with the same travelers and tour guides throughout your trip. Instead, you usually meet and engage with new people.
Am I Sharing the Room with Someone?
Your room is exclusive to you and whomever is in your party. Strangers (meaning customers who book on the same start date but do not know each other) do not share rooms on this tour. On a side note, please let us know if you and the other person(s) in your booking want separate rooms.
What is the Age Range & Nationality of the People Who Book This Tour?
Although we get customers of all ages and from several countries, our statistics show most people who book are 30 to 65 years old and from USA, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Are Kids Allowed on This Tour & Are They Charged the Same as Adults?
We welcome your kids specifically and only when the tour is exclusive to you and your group-meaning other customers are not joining you. We define kids as anyone under 18 years old. In order to make the tour exclusive to you and your group, your booking would need to be for 4 persons or more for any of our tours except Iceland. For our Iceland tour, your booking would need to be for 8 persons or more. Regarding the cost of bringing a non-adult, we do deduct from the total based on the amount of activities you request we remove from the tour. Note that reducing the total price of the tour by removing activities is something offered for non-adults only. Adults can opt out of activities but the total price does not change.
How Strong Do I Need to Be For This Trip?
We do not expect you to be an Olympic champion. We know some of the tour members are more fit than others…and we are well prepared for this. However, we do hope you take into consideration this is a very active tour, just like every other tour we offer.
Are Disabled People Allowed on This Tour?
Please let us know about any disability you have. Some disabilities would not affect you taking this tour. Others would prevent you from joining altogether. Although we want all of our customers to have fun, your safety is our first priority.
Do I Get Any Free Time to Myself?
Of course. Once each day’s tour is over, you have the rest of the evening to yourself. Because our tours tend to be very active, our customers typically want to simply relax once the sun sets.
What Happens If I Arrive Late?
Notify us as soon as possible and we will do our very best to arrange a meeting point. Please note that we do not refund for any days or activities that you miss.
Can I Opt-Out of Certain Activities?
Generally speaking, you can opt out as long as we are given adequate notice. Please note that opting out of certain activities does not reduce the price of this tour.
What Happens If I Get Injured on This Trip & Cannot Continue?
We would do our best to keep you safe and make you as comfortable as possible, as well as make special arrangements to address your situation. Partial refunds are not offered if you cannot continue with the tour. However, most travel insurances reimburse you for such situations. This is one of many reasons why we require our customers to purchase travel insurance before taking this tour.
What Happens If I Cancel This Trip?
To confirm your tour, full payment is needed at the time of your purchase. However, refunds are offered. You will receive a full refund if canceling at least 91 days in advance from the departure date. Cancelling between 90-60 days prior to departure entitles you to a 50 percent refund. Cancelling between 59-31 days prior to departure entitles you to a 25 percent refund. Canceling 30 days or less prior to departure is not eligible for a refund. Cancellation requests need to be made by email and become effective on the date received by CharlieTheTraveler.
What Happens If You, CharlieTheTraveler, Cancel This Trip?
In the unlikely event CharlieTheTraveler needs to cancel this trip, such as because of very poor weather conditions, we will give you a full refund for the tour within 14 business days of the cancellation. Note: We are not a participant in the California Travel Consumer Restitution Fund, nor is this transaction covered by the Restitution Fund.
How Do You Help Prepare Us For This Trip?
You should receive an email from us within 24 hours of purchasing this tour as well as a week before departure. The first email gives details about what to bring, how to prepare yourself, etc. The second email is more like a timetable combined with important contact information.
Is There Anything Out of the Ordinary I Should Bring on This Trip?
Bring a mask and motorcycle goggles, to be used to block the dust while riding in the desert. On a different note, you may need to bring adapters for your electronic devices.
Are the Tour Guides Licensed & Will They Be With Me the Entire Time?
Our tour guides/drivers are licensed, speak English and know how to bring excitement to your day. What we deliver is the complete opposite of the cookie-cutting tours the big corporations offer, leaving you in complete boredom. Although our tour guides/drivers are attentive, accommodating and engaged, they also know when to give you your private space and free time. It's a perfect balance.
In Which Language(s) is This Tour Offered?
All of our tours are offered in English. If you prefer another language, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Do We Need to Get Our Own Transportation to and From the Airport?
Absolutely not. We make the arrangements for you.
Is Someone Available for Us 24-7 While on This Tour?
Yes! You have your own concierge for this tour who is at your disposal. You could reach this person when you need anything.
