Our Tour Package Itinerary
Day 1: Brazilian Heritage at its Richest
Our tour starts in Salvador. Although many head to Bahia for its tropical coastline and tasty caipirinha drinks, the state’s most popular destination is undoubtedly its capital. Salvador is home to Afro-Brazilian heritage at its richest: deep-fried seafood, festive drum-pounding sounds, mystical religious ceremonies, dance and an artistic form of martial arts called capoeira.
Day 2: The North’s Hangout Hotspot
Today we make a daytrip by boat from Salvador to Morro de São Paulo. We explore this vibrant island by foot, visiting the fort, lighthouse, shops and beaches. Free of cars, Morro de São Paulo is North Brazil’s hangout hotspot. It has a vibe to it which puts everyone there in a good mood.
Day 3: Charming & Colorful Portuguese Architecture, Inviting Music & Authentic Cuisine
Before relocating by flight and then by land to the resort town of Porto de Galinhas, we explore Salvador some more. This historic city is renowned for its crumbling yet nevertheless impressive Portuguese architecture. Salvador serves as Brazil’s second most visited urban destination after Rio de Janeiro. Today we are provided with a guided tour, exploring the sites and landmarks in depth. UNESCO declared the old town a World Heritage Site in 1985. Salvador is one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas. There is much to see and enjoy: music blasting on the streets, authentic cuisine, charming squares, colorful buildings and more.
Day 4: A Multicolored Sandbar, a Church Planted Right on the Beach, Snorkeling & Splitting the Ocean in 2
As a daytrip from Porto de Galinhas, we head south along the coast. The first stop is a beach called Pontal de Maracaipe. There we see a multicolored sandbar. Next is the beach of Praia dos Carneiros. Its landmark is a historic church located in the middle of a long and sandy beach. Next is the beach of Praia Barra Grande. There we walk along sand which splits the ocean in two. Lastly, we visit a beach called Pontal do Maragogi. There we take a boat ride out to the sea so we can see the natural pools. Snorkeling gear is provided.
Note that some of today’s attractions and activities may need to be removed from the tour should the sea tides not be low enough.
Day 5: Buggy Riding on the Sand, Sailing to Natural Pools & a Colonial City’s Ambiance
Before relocating by flight and then by land to the fishing village of Jericoacoara, we do a couple of fun activities in Porto de Galinhas. We take a sailboat (a.k.a. jangada) to a nearby natural pool as well as go buggy-riding on the beach. Porto de Galinhas has been voted ‘Best Brazilian Beach’ for the eighth time in a row by the readers of Voyage & Tourism magazine.
Before heading to the airport in Recife, we also visit the colonial city of Olinda. Characterized by bright white churches, pastel-colored buildings, historic fountains and cobblestone streets and squares, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is spread across several small hills overlooking Recife. Incidentally, Olinda is one of Brazil’s three best locations to celebrate the world-renowned Carnival, along with Salvador and Rio de Janeiro.
On a side note, would you like to extend this 13-day tour by 3 days so you can visit the island of Fernando de Noronha? There is a direct flight there from Recife. The reason why Fernando de Noronha is not automatically included is because it is more of a ‘special interest’ kind of destination. Even though there is a handful of attractions which make this island nice, ultimately it is best suited for families looking for relaxation and otherwise for those who like surfing.
Day 6: Lagoons, Beach Clubs, a Romantic Sunset & Nightlife
As an excursion from Jericoacoara by buggy, today we do the so-called ‘east route’ in this specific order: Prea Beach, Lagun Beach Club, Lagoa Paraiso (a.k.a. Paradise Lagoon) and Lagoa do Amancio (a.k.a. Loving Lagoon). In the evening, we walk to the ‘Por-do-Sol’ dune to watch the sunset over the ocean. Later we check out the nightlife. It is quite authentic.
Day 7: Wild Dunes, Sea Horses & a Place Like Nowhere Else on Earth
Leaving Jericoacoara, we are not taken directly to the hotel located in the town of Parnaíba. Instead, we make a lot of fun stops en route. Driving literally along the beach, firstly we are taken to a dock. There we get on a boat and search for sea horses. Next, we take a ferry crossing so we can reach an indescribable place called Mangue. There we see bizarre mangrove formations, swings, hammocks and visitors making crazy poses. After watching people go wild, we go sand boarding and dune bashing. Next, we check out a lagoon called Lagoa de Torta. We later visit Tatajuba Beach (a.k.a. Desert Beach) and then, Camocim Beach. Before reaching Parnaíba, we ride on some more sand dunes and otherwise make a ferry crossing at Coreau River.
Day 8: A Delta Voyage & Plenty of Exotic Coastline
Before relocating from Parnaíba to the town of Barreirinhas, we go on a scenic boat cruise along a delta with sand dunes surrounding us. Lunch is included on today’s tour. Barreirinhas is the gateway into Lençóis Maranhenses. This national park receives as many as 60,000 visitors a year. It includes 70 kilometers (43 miles) of coastline and an interior composed of rolling sand dunes. May through September, the valleys among the dunes are full with freshwater lagoons.
Day 9: A Pilot's View Over a Truly Unique Park & a Dawn to Dusk 4x4 Tour
Our morning starts with a flightseeing tour over sand dunes and lagoons. This just may be our most unforgettable adventure while at Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. The day continues with an adventurous morning-to-sunset 4×4 tour, checking out sand dunes and lagoons. We also have time for swimming. The lagoons in the park are often interconnected with one another, as well as with the rivers which run through the area.
Day 10: Desert Viewpoints by Boat & What an Incredible River
Before relocating by land to the city of Sao Luis, we explore Lençóis Maranhenses National Park some more. We spend the day doing a boat tour. The highlights are the river itself and the desert viewpoints. Few places on Earth can be compared to the unique physical features of this ecofriendly destination.
Day 11: Welcome to the Jungle!
We relocate by flight from Sao Luis to the city of Manaus and then take a drive to our ecolodge. Lodging in a vast rainforest is in itself an experience, as are going on river cruises to see wildlife. We have saved the best for last, meaning spending our final days of this grand tour exploring the Amazon.
Note that virtually all meals are included by the ecolodge during our stay.
Day 12: Being Approached by Pink Dolphins, Spotting Creatures & a Night Cruise
The Amazon is the world’s most renowned rainforest for good reason. The highlights for today are interacting with pink dolphins in their natural habitat and spotting a variety of creatures in the jungle. In the dark night, we take a boat cruise in search of caimans and other wildlife.
Day 13: Our Tour Ends Today After Exploring the Amazon Some More
Transportation will be arranged for you to reach the airport in Manaus.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can We Customize This Tour?
We are open to customizing this tour to your liking, even though the itinerary we recommend is rock solid. As our tour is currently advertised, you absolutely will not find another one out there as packed with activities and attractions. What’s more, you will not find another tour out there that offers it all "FIRST CLASS," yet for a relatively low price. We have thousands of travelers taking this specific tour every year, and that's because no competitor can beat us on quality, price & substance.
Is Travel Insurance Required & Included?
All participants are required to book travel insurance within 72 hours of booking this tour. At a minimum, such insurance must cover cancellations, medical expenses, evacuations, flight loss or delays and 24/7 assistance.
How Much Does This Tour Cost & Is Financing Offered?
A 4-installment payment plan is available, often with 0 percent interest to those with at least decent credit. Ask us for details. Our luxury-oriented and itinerary-packed “North Brazil in 13 Days” tour is available for $2,860 USD per person. This price includes all transportation, except flights. It also includes English-speaking tour guides, food, all activities, all entry fees and lodging in the Amazon for 2 nights. If you would like lodging included for the remaining 10 nights, then the combined (transportation, tour guides, food, activities, entry fees and lodging) total would be $3,834 USD per person. This price is based on 2 per room and is offered to those booking at least 6 weeks in advance. Note that there is a $30 USD fee if paying by bank transfer or a 4.6 percent surcharge for payments made by credit card. We accept both forms of payment. We do not accept checks. Moving forward, to better understand your specific circumstances and wishes, and for us to accurately quote you, please tell us:
1. How many persons in your party-including yourself-would be joining this tour? Solo travelers are welcomed, in case you were wondering.
2. What is your age and the age of your travel companion(s), if applicable? Travel insurance is required for this tour and we cannot quote you without knowing your age.
3. Would you be sharing the room with others in your group (e.g. a spouse, relative or friend) or do you want the room exclusive to you?
4. Even though the standard lodge we use in the Amazon is of good quality, Mirante do Gaviao Lodge in Novo Airão is on a whole other level. It is one of Brazil’s finest-and unsurprisingly most expensive-Amazonian lodges. Are you interested in upgrading?
5. Where would you be flying from (and back to)?
6. On what date would you like to leave home?
7. Would you like to extend the duration of this tour so you have some free days just to relax? If you have 1 extra day, then we recommend you spend it in Morro de Sao Paulo. If you have more time, then we recommend you spend it in and around the town of Porto Seguro. On the day of arrival in Porto Seguro, we relax at a cove called Coroa Vermelha, which is only a 30-minute drive away. The next day, we make a daytrip first to the village of Caraiva, then to a beach called Praia do Espelho and finally to the small town of Trancoso. On the third and final day, we first head to a beach called Lagoa Azul followed by to the town of Arraial D'Ajuda. Lagoa Azul features a mud pool rich in minerals. The rest of the destinations feature beautiful beaches dotted with nice restaurants and passionate music. What make these destinations different from every other pretty beach destination in Brazil are the tides are often low and the water is multicolored: red, turquoise and often yellow. This is due to the minerals, which also explains why some of the mountain rocks are completely red.
8. Lastly, would you like to extend this 13-day tour by 3 days so you can visit the island of Fernando de Noronha? There is a direct flight to there from Recife. The reason why Fernando de Noronha is not automatically included is because it is more of a ‘special interest’ kind of destination. Even though there is a handful of attractions which make this island nice, ultimately it is best suited for families looking for relaxation and otherwise for those who like surfing.
What’s Excluded in the Price?
All lodging, internal transportation, breakfast, some lunches (only if specified), entry fees and local tour guides
Are Domestic Flights Needed for This Tour?
Below are the domestic flights needed for this tour:
Day 1: São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro to Salvador
Day 3: Salvador to Recife
Day 5: Recife to Fortaleza (or Jericoacoara if available)
Day 11: Sao Luis to Manaus
Day 13: Manaus to São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro
After booking our tour package, we would send you screenshots of what you need to purchase (airlines, flight number and date) and you would then book directly with the carrier. Never book airfare through a third party and always ensure your airfare type allows for changes or cancellation without penality. Does CharlieTheTraveler book airfare on customers' behalf? Although we recommend you do so directly to save money, yes we do offer this service, after the initial booking is made.
At What Specific Hotels Would We Be Staying?
We wouldn’t choose places we would not have our own mothers stay at. We realize that staying at a substandard establishment can really damage the overall experience-and we make sure to avoid this at all costs. The establishments we choose all have air conditioning and private bathrooms and are as safe and clean as can be. Why can’t we tell you the names of the establishments now? Our options may change based on the size of our group. It isn’t until we have the final count of tour members for this trip could we finalize all accommodation bookings. Once all finalized, we would let you know promptly via email.
Is This a Private or Group Tour?
Although most activities on this multi-day tour are shared with other travelers, we can make the trip almost completely private, per your request, at an additional cost. Typically, exploring the city of Salvador and the town of Olinda are the only activities exclusive to you and whomever else you may book on behalf of.
*Note that you are not with the same travelers and tour guides throughout your trip. Instead, you usually meet and engage with new people.
Am I Sharing the Room with Someone?
Your room is exclusive to you and whomever is in your party. Strangers (meaning customers who book on the same start date but do not know each other) do not share rooms on this tour. On a side note, please let us know if you and the other person(s) in your booking want separate rooms.
What is the Age Range & Nationality of the People Who Book This Tour?
Although we get customers of all ages and from several countries, our statistics show most people who book are 30 to 65 years old and from USA, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Are Kids Allowed on This Tour & Are They Charged the Same as Adults?
We welcome your kids specifically and only when the tour is exclusive to you and your group-meaning other customers are not joining you. We define kids as anyone under 18 years old. In order to make the tour exclusive to you and your group, your booking would need to be for 4 persons or more for any of our tours except Iceland. For our Iceland tour, your booking would need to be for 8 persons or more. Regarding the cost of bringing a non-adult, we do deduct from the total based on the amount of activities you request we remove from the tour. Note that reducing the total price of the tour by removing activities is something offered for non-adults only. Adults can opt out of activities but the total price does not change.
How Strong Do I Need to Be For This Trip?
We do not expect you to be an Olympic champion. We know some of the tour members are more fit than others…and we are well prepared for this. However, we do hope you take into consideration this is a very active tour, just like every other tour we offer.
Are Disabled People Allowed on This Tour?
Please let us know about any disability you have. Some disabilities would not affect you taking this tour. Others would prevent you from joining altogether. Although we want all of our customers to have fun, your safety is our first priority.
Do I Get Any Free Time to Myself?
Of course. Once each day’s tour is over, you have the rest of the evening to yourself. Because our tours tend to be very active, our customers typically want to simply relax once the sun sets.
What Happens If I Arrive Late?
Notify us as soon as possible and we will do our very best to arrange a meeting point. Please note that we do not refund for any days or activities that you miss.
Can I Opt-Out of Certain Activities?
Generally speaking, you can opt out as long as we are given adequate notice. Please note that opting out of certain activities does not reduce the price of this tour.
What Happens If I Get Injured on This Trip & Cannot Continue?
We would do our best to keep you safe and make you as comfortable as possible, as well as make special arrangements to address your situation. Partial refunds are not offered if you cannot continue with the tour. However, most travel insurances reimburse you for such situations. This is one of many reasons why we require our customers to purchase travel insurance before taking this tour.
What Happens If I Cancel This Trip?
To confirm your tour, full payment is needed at the time of your purchase. However, refunds are offered. You will receive a full refund if canceling at least 91 days in advance from the departure date. Cancelling between 90-60 days prior to departure entitles you to a 50 percent refund. Cancelling between 59-31 days prior to departure entitles you to a 25 percent refund. Canceling 30 days or less prior to departure is not eligible for a refund. Cancellation requests need to be made by email and become effective on the date received by CharlieTheTraveler.
What Happens If You, CharlieTheTraveler, Cancel This Trip?
In the unlikely event CharlieTheTraveler needs to cancel this trip, such as because of very poor weather conditions, we will give you a full refund for the tour within 14 business days of the cancellation. Note: We are not a participant in the California Travel Consumer Restitution Fund, nor is this transaction covered by the Restitution Fund.
How Do You Help Prepare Us For This Trip?
You should receive an email from us within 24 hours of purchasing this tour as well as a week before departure. The first email gives details about what to bring, how to prepare yourself, etc. The second email gives details mostly about the hotels.
Is There Anything Out of the Ordinary I Should Bring on This Trip?
Your phone should have an attached string or wrist wrap which latches onto your belt while you are out in public (to deter pickpockets). Also, bring a lockable waterproof backpack (to bring onto the boat), a waterproof case for your identification card and credit cards (when swimming) and water shoes. Also, bring a mask and motorcycle goggles, to be used to block the dust while riding in the desert. Not least, bring an external charger for your phone. Electric outages in the Amazon are quite common. Lastly, you may need to bring adapters for your electronic devices.
Are the Tour Guides Licensed & Will They Be With Me the Entire Time?
Our tour guides/drivers are licensed, speak English and know how to bring excitement to your day. What we deliver is the complete opposite of the cookie-cutting tours the big corporations offer, leaving you in complete boredom. Although our tour guides/drivers are attentive, accommodating and engaged, they also know when to give you your private space and free time. It's a perfect balance.
In Which Language(s) is This Tour Offered?
All of our private tours are offered in English. If you prefer another language, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you. Note we cannot guarantee the shared tours will be provided in any language other than in Portuguese.
Do We Need to Get Our Own Transportation to and From the Airport?
Absolutely not. We make the arrangements for you.
Is Someone Available for Us 24-7 While on This Tour?
Yes! You have your own concierge for this tour who is at your disposal. You could reach this person when you need anything.
