        Our Tour Package Itinerary

Kick off your Bolivia luxury trip in La Paz, one of the world’s highest capital cities. After arrival, you’ll glide above the city in a private cable car—an elevated way to start your Bolivia itinerary. Later, venture to Valle de la Luna and Valle de las Ánimas, surreal rock formations that feel like stepping onto another planet. This is just the beginning of your fully guided, stress-free experience Bolivia tour.

Today, we leave the highlands and fly to the tropical wetlands of the Yacuma River. As part of your Bolivia luxury tour, enjoy a private boat ride deep into one of the richest wildlife areas in the Amazon basin. Spot capybaras, pink dolphins, howler monkeys, and exotic birds in their natural habitat. Unlike any basic Bolivia trip itinerary, we get you front row access to wild Bolivia—comfortably.

Wake up surrounded by rainforest and river. This is Bolivia luxury travel redefined. Guided by expert naturalists, you’ll explore untouched jungle paths, visit lagoons teeming with caimans, and possibly swim near river dolphins. Your experience Bolivia tour continues with immersive nature like nowhere else—every moment managed for comfort and awe.

Before we relocate to Uyuni via a comfortable overnight bus (yes, the seats nearly fully recline), we take in La Paz’s most iconic sights—a perfect prelude to the adventure ahead in your Bolivia 10 day itinerary. These exclusive highlights set the tone for the caliber of experiences you’ll enjoy throughout our Bolivia luxury tours:

        1. Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley): Otherworldly rock formations that look straight out of a sci-fi film.

        2. Plaza Murillo: A political and historical centerpiece, featuring the Plurinational Legislative Assembly and the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace.

        3. Red Cable Car Ride: Soar above the city in one of the world’s highest and most scenic cable cars.

        4. Blue Cable Car Ride: Another aerial route with spectacular views of La Paz’s rugged urban landscape.

        5. Plaza San Francisco: A vibrant square anchored by the San Francisco Cathedral—don’t miss the panoramic views from its rooftop when accessible.

We kick off our 3-day 4×4 Salar de Uyuni safari right away. First stop: the hauntingly photogenic Train Cemetery, where we get a guided tour through rusted locomotives that once served Bolivia’s mining industry.

Next, we head to the nearby village of Colchani for a guided visit to a local salt processing facility—a fascinating glimpse into traditional salt harvesting methods. Afterward, we enjoy an included lunch before heading out to the main event: the Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat. Formed from ancient prehistoric lakes, this natural wonder stretches as far as the eye can see.

We begin with a visit to several saltwater wells, where our guide explains their geological function. Then, we explore the salt cone piles, a classic image of the flats.

Next, we stop by the old Salt Hotel, now a quirky museum made entirely of—you guessed it—salt. After a short visit, we continue to Isla Incahuasi, an island covered in giant cacti and coral rock formations. It’s the perfect backdrop for surreal, postcard-worthy photos of the endless white landscape.

We finish the day in the village of San Juan, where we stay overnight. Dinner is included around 8:30 PM.

Note: This itinerary may shift slightly during the wet season (January–March), when water levels affect access to parts of the flats.

Today’s Bolivia luxury tour highlights some of the country’s most surreal natural wonders. First up is Cañapa Lagoon, followed by Hedionda, Honda, and the otherworldly Siloli Desert. Each lagoon is framed by high-altitude drama and vivid color—Laguna Hedionda is especially famous for its flocks of migratory flamingos (both pink and white), while llamas and alpacas graze freely nearby.

The final destination is the iconic Laguna Colorada, also known as the Red Lagoon. Its deep crimson waters and striking white mineral patches create one of the most visually arresting sights in South America. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and tonight’s lodging are all included in today’s unforgettable segment of your Bolivia 10-day itinerary.

Today’s adventure begins with the bubbling geothermal field of Sol de Mañana, an active volcanic zone dotted with steaming sulfur vents and mud pools. Next, we stop at the Termas de Polques—natural hot springs where you’ll have time to soak, so don’t forget your swimwear and towel!

We continue through the Salvador Dalí Desert, known for its surreal, painterly landscape, before reaching the mineral-rich Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon), famous for its emerald waters and graceful flamingos.

Afterward, we head to Villa Mar, where lunch is served around 1:00 p.m. Along the way, breakfast is also provided (around 7:30 a.m.). Post-lunch, we visit the Valley of the Rocks, a dramatic stretch of eroded stone formations that resemble abstract sculptures. Our final stop is once again Uyuni, where we board an overnight land transfer back to La Paz.

We depart La Paz early for a full-day excursion to the lakeside village of Copacabana, where we explore its iconic cathedral—one of Bolivia’s most important pilgrimage sites.

From there, we board a boat across Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake, en route to the legendary Sun Island (Isla del Sol). Once on the island, a guided walking tour leads us to the Inca Palace and the historic Inca Stairway, both surrounded by terraced hillsides that have supported farming since ancient times.

Archaeological findings show that humans have inhabited the island since the third millennium BC. Today, around 800 families call the island home, maintaining a strong connection to their traditions. If you’re looking for authentic cultural immersion, this island delivers.

Today’s journey takes us from La Paz to La Cumbre, a dramatic high-altitude mountain pass offering stunning Andean views. From there, we begin a car cruise along the Yungas Road, famously known as “The World’s Most Dangerous Road.” Once infamous for its sharp drops and narrow paths, the road has since been modernized. The upgraded route—completed in 2006 after 20 years of improvements—now features two lanes, paved surfaces, bridges, drainage systems, and safer bypasses that replaced the most hazardous sections.

Later, we continue the adventure on two wheels with a biking tour further down the mountain. The ride offers more breathtaking scenery and a bit of adrenaline. Photos and short video clips of your experience are included and sent by email at no extra cost.

Midday, we stop for lunch at a hotel, where you’re also welcome to relax and go for a swim.

Transportation will be arranged to ensure you reach La Paz Airport comfortably at the end of your tour.

While our Bolivia luxury tours do not include visits to Sucre, Potosí, Amboró National Park, or Noel Kempff Mercado National Park by default, CharlieTheTraveler can organize full excursions to any of these destinations upon request.

Sucre offers a handful of historic monuments, but its main highlight is Cal Orcko, a remarkable track site where nine different morphotypes of genuine dinosaur footprints have been documented.

Potosí, founded in 1546 following the discovery of vast silver deposits in the Cerro Rico Mountains, quickly grew into one of the wealthiest cities in the Americas. Its rich history is evident in stunning baroque churches, colonial mansions, and narrow streets. Potosí is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, though the town itself is more industrial than charming. The real draw is the silver mining tour in Cerro Rico—once the richest silver mine in world history, producing an estimated 60,000 tons of silver. This tour offers a unique, often emotional glimpse into the harsh working conditions miners face and is best suited for travelers with a strong interest in history and mining.

The two national parks, especially Noel Kempff Mercado, are remote and costly to visit but provide exceptional biodiversity and pristine wilderness for adventurous travelers.

Please ask if you’d like to add any of these special destinations to your custom Bolivia itinerary.

We just completed CharlieTheTraveler's Bolivia trip and had a fantastic time. The country has such a wide variety of interesting sights and we managed to visit most of the best ones. His team of local guides based in La Paz were excellent. And while all of the sights and locations were interesting, I would single out the three-day excursion to the area near Uyuni as the major highlight for us. All in all, it was a wonderful trip and we highly recommend it.

We saw so much in Uyuni and around La Paz that I’m not even sure where to begin. Charlie the Traveler put together a custom “tour for two” on very short notice and it was first class all the way — from the Uyuni Salt Flats to our La Paz hotel with a view of the Carnaval Parade route to the guide who took us hiking high up into the Andes. William, our contact, was in constant communication with us. We had expert drivers, comfortable vehicles, and depending on the day’s itinerary we had different bilingual guides with really impressive knowledge of Bolivia’s cultural heritage and history. We learned a lot and ate well every day! Never felt more catered to, or more pampered, by a tour company. Felt like it was truly important to everyone that we had a good time: and we did! We loved Bolivia, and I will never forget having a personal wine time set up for us in the middle of the salt flats. It was unreal! Thank you for everything William and thank you to Charlie the Traveler for making Bolivia an awesome experience we will always remember!

        7. Would you like to extend the duration of this tour so you have some free days just to relax? If you have 1 extra day, then we recommend La Paz. If you have 2, then we recommend 1 in La Paz and 1 at Lake Titicaca.

        8. Do you have a preference between male and female tour guides?

        What’s Excluded in the Price?

Any international airfare, alcohol, travel insurance, any government-imposed visa fees and anything not mentioned in the itinerary

Although airfare is not included in the price, we will find you the exact flights you need. Just ask.

Also worth mentioning, if you are required to obtain a visa for Bolivia, we recommend you do so before entering the country. While it can also be done upon arrival, the process is quite lengthy and bureaucratic.

Are Domestic Flights Needed for This Tour?

Below are the domestic flights needed for this tour, both of which are included in the price:

Day 2: La Paz to Rurrenabaque

*If you need to sleep in Santa Cruz for 1 night before our tour begins in La Paz, our preferred hotels in Santa Cruz are Hotel Terranova Suites and Sun Hotel.

Is This a Private or Group Tour?

Although many activities on this multi-day tour are shared with other travelers, we can make the trip almost completely private, per your request, at an additional cost. Typically, the salt flat tours, the wetlands tours, and the biking tour along Yungas Road are shared with other travelers. The tour to Lake Titicaca and the tour in and around La Paz are exclusive to you and whomever else you may book on behalf of.

*Note that you are not with the same travelers and tour guides throughout your trip. Instead, you usually meet and engage with new people.

Am I Sharing the Room with Someone?

Your room is exclusive to you and whomever is in your party. Strangers (meaning customers who book on the same start date but do not know each other) do not share rooms on this tour. On a side note, please let us know if you and the other person(s) in your booking want separate rooms.

What is the Age Range & Nationality of the People Who Book This Tour?

Although we get customers of all ages and from several countries, our statistics show most people who book are 30 to 65 years old and from USA, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Are Kids Allowed on This Tour & Are They Charged the Same as Adults?

We welcome your kids specifically and only when the tour is exclusive to you and your group-meaning other customers are not joining you. We define kids as anyone under 18 years old. In order to make the tour exclusive to you and your group, your booking would need to be for 4 persons or more for any of our tours except Iceland. For our Iceland tour, your booking would need to be for 8 persons or more. Regarding the cost of bringing a non-adult, we do deduct from the total based on the amount of activities you request we remove from the tour. Note that reducing the total price of the tour by removing activities is something offered for non-adults only. Adults can opt out of activities but the total price does not change.

How Strong Do I Need to Be For This Trip?

We do not expect you to be an Olympic champion. We know some of the tour members are more fit than others…and we are well prepared for this. However, we do hope you take into consideration this is a very active tour, just like every other tour we offer.

Are Disabled People Allowed on This Tour?

Please let us know about any disability you have. Some disabilities would not affect you taking this tour. Others would prevent you from joining altogether. Although we want all of our customers to have fun, your safety is our first priority.

Do I Get Any Free Time to Myself?

Of course. Once each day’s tour is over, you have the rest of the evening to yourself. Because our tours tend to be very active, our customers typically want to simply relax once the sun sets.

What Happens If I Arrive Late?

Notify us as soon as possible and we will do our very best to arrange a meeting point. Please note that we do not refund for any days or activities that you miss.

Can I Opt-Out of Certain Activities?

Generally speaking, you can opt out as long as we are given adequate notice. Please note that opting out of certain activities does not reduce the price of this tour.

What Happens If I Get Injured on This Trip & Cannot Continue?

We would do our best to keep you safe and make you as comfortable as possible, as well as make special arrangements to address your situation. Partial refunds are not offered if you cannot continue with the tour. However, most travel insurances reimburse you for such situations. This is one of many reasons why we require our customers to purchase travel insurance before taking this tour.

What Happens If I Cancel This Trip?

To confirm your tour, full payment is needed at the time of your purchase. However, refunds are offered. You will receive a full refund if canceling at least 91 days in advance from the departure date. Cancelling between 90-60 days prior to departure entitles you to a 50 percent refund. Cancelling between 59-31 days prior to departure entitles you to a 25 percent refund. Canceling 30 days or less prior to departure is not eligible for a refund. Cancellation requests need to be made by email and become effective on the date received by CharlieTheTraveler.

What Happens If You, CharlieTheTraveler, Cancel This Trip?

In the unlikely event CharlieTheTraveler needs to cancel this trip, such as because of very poor weather conditions, we will give you a full refund for the tour within 14 business days of the cancellation. Note: We are not a participant in the California Travel Consumer Restitution Fund, nor is this transaction covered by the Restitution Fund.

How Do You Help Prepare Us For This Trip?

You should receive an email from us within 24 hours of purchasing this tour as well as a week before departure. The first email gives details about what to bring, how to prepare yourself, etc. The second email gives details mostly about the hotels.

Is There Anything Out of the Ordinary I Should Bring on This Trip?

Bring with you an external charger for your phone. Electric outages in the Bolivian desert are quite common. While in this desert, wear hiking shoes when the land is dry and water shoes when it is wet (specifically if visiting between December and early April). Also, wear a double pair of socks, warm clothes, a thick windbreaker, water-resistant pants (specifically if visiting between December and early April), headwear, a scarf and gloves. It gets cold, especially in the evenings. Wool, fleece and synthetic clothing are ideal for the desert, as opposed to cotton. Cotton absorbs and retains moisture from the air and from your body. On a different note, bring portable oxygen cans, to reduce altitude sickness. Lastly, you may need to bring adapters for your electronic devices.

Are the Tour Guides Licensed & Will They Be With Me the Entire Time?

Our tour guides/drivers are licensed, speak English and know how to bring excitement to your day. What we deliver is the complete opposite of the cookie-cutting tours the big corporations offer, leaving you in complete boredom. Although our tour guides/drivers are attentive, accommodating and engaged, they also know when to give you your private space and free time. It's a perfect balance.

In Which Language(s) is This Tour Offered?

All of our tours are offered in English. If you prefer another language, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Do We Need to Get Our Own Transportation to and From the Airport?

Absolutely not. We make the arrangements for you.

Is Someone Available for Us 24-7 While on This Tour?

Yes! You have your own concierge for this tour who is at your disposal. You could reach this person when you need anything.
